Cappa, now 71, worked alongside Jorge Valdano at Real between 1994 and 1996, before returning to work as a head coach first with then Las Palmas and then with various sides in his homeland.
Speaking to 'BeSoccer', the experienced coach discussed a range of topics and it was little to surprise to hear the Argentine voice his preference for Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo.
"There are no analogies (to describe the difference between Messi and Ronaldo). Cristiano is the stand out player in a team. The finisher, one of the best in history. With incredible power off his left foot, right foot and head... and Messi, as well as scoring the same amount of goals as Ronaldo, Messi's are better and he's a player for the the whole pitch. Messi makes others play, whereas Ronaldo depends on others to be able to score," Cappa explained.
Unlike many others, Cappa does believes that the pair could play in the same team, saying: "I think Messi and Cristiano complement each other. Messi would create chances for Ronaldo, but the press pits them against each other because they play for Real Madrid and Barcelona."
Finally, when asked what Ronaldo does better than Messi and vice-versa, Cappa replied in emphatic fashion. "Cristiano is a great header of the ball. Messi surpasses Ronaldo at everything else," he concluded.
