The midfielder transferred to Bayer Leverkusen, due to concerns that he was lacking game time at Bayern. The move was strategic to further his career prospects and the following year, Can signed with Liverpool.
Speaking to 'Sport1', Can said he had no regrets over the move: ''Today, you can see that it was the right decision.'' He was also highly complimentary of Guardiola as a coach, he said that they had a ''very, very honest conversation,'' and adding that ''I was very young and it was important for me to play a lot. He [Guardiola] told me honestly: ''I cannot guarantee you now that you will play every week.'' Thus prompting the transfer.
Liverpool will come up against Guardiola's Manchester City on 4th April in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. It will mark the fourth occasion that Can has played for Liverpool against his former coach's side.
At the end of this season, Can's contract at Anfield will expire and the midfielder is expected to leave. He has been linked with moves to Juventus and also Manchester City.
