Diego Costa returned to Spain and he showed what he is made of. It was text-book Costa, at the centre of controversial incidents as well as finding the back of the net as Atletico came away with their first win of 2018.
He elbowed Djene in the face as the two contested the ball and was fortunate to only be booked, and six minuted later came his goal. Vrsaljko crossed from the right and Costa got in front of Djene to shoot past Martinez.
The crowd at Atletico's new Metropolitano stadium had been chanting his name throughout the entire game and he didn't hesitate before running to the fans and diving into the stands behind the goal to share the moment, which consequentially turned out to be his last of the match because he was booked for excessive celebration.
He emerged from the mob only to see the red card brandished by the official. One week into his second spell at the club and he is already suspended.
