'The Independent' claims that the Portuguese is eager to strengthen his options at right-back this summer and is considering switching his sights to Ivorian Aurier as Monago dig their heels in over Fabinho.
They report that Mourinho is looking to bolster his side with a right-back, a defensive midfielder and a winger. Fabinho would have been the ideal candidate, with the player a long-term target for United and with him being a natural at both right-back and in midfield.
However, having already lost Bernardo Silva and Timeoue Bakayoko this summer, Monaco have adopted a tough stance and are prepared to use rival interest from PSG and Atletico Madrid to start a bidding war. This is despite the Monegasque side having no intention of selling to domestic rivals PSG.
PSG are believed to be prepared to sell Aurier this summer, with the 24-year-old having made just as many headlines off the pitch as on it in recent times. In 2016, the player was given a suspended sentence for assaulting a police officer.
The Ivory Coast captain has slipped further down the pecking order in the French capital following the arrival of Dani Alves and it is believed that he could be available for £25m, significantly less than Fabinho would cost.
