A celebration of football at the Bernabeu began with a minute's silence to commemorate the victims of the Barcelona attack last week. The stadium went quiet before erupting into a chorus of cheers urging their team on.
It was only a friendly, but the crowd were eager to see their team and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently serving a five-match ban and is not eligible for official fixtures.
The game got underway and Real attempted to claim possession in the early minutes. However, they were shocked to see Fiorentina race up the other end and put the ball in the back of the net. Veretout was awarded time and space at the edge of the box and his half-volley into the bottom corner gave Kiko Casilla no chance.
The home side continued to maintain a high line of pressure, forcing mistakes from the Italians. The equaliser came soon after, Ronaldo providing the low cross for Borja Mayoral to finish at the back post.
With the game level, it was Madrid who took initiative. Though both sides were more concerned about attacking than defending, which awarded plenty of space for the strikers to run forward.
The same defensive apathy was seen in Real's box with Astori rattling the bar with an overhead kick. As the ball came in, the Italian captain was left completely unmarked to attempt the spectacular goal.
The spectacular came at the other end. Cristiano Ronaldo was allowed to cut in from the left and given space to shoot, and the Portuguese star sent a thumping strike straight into the top far corner.
Confidence growing, Cristiano Ronaldo began to enjoy himself, along with the rest of the team who put together strings of passes to break down Fiorentina's solid defensive web.
Both managers made several changes in the second half but the hosts continued to control the tempo of the fixture. Zidane's team piled on chance after chance, but no further goals were scored.
Ronaldo smashed the ball against the upright late in the second half after picking up the rebound of Isco's long-distance shot. In the end, Real Madrid won the 'Trofeo Bernabeu' after a dominant display against Fiorentina.
