Atletico turn to Torres in bid to solve goalscoring woes

Atletico currently sit in third place in Group C with three points and must beat the Italians at the Wanda Metrpolitano to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.

With Atletico struggling for goals, English publication 'The Daily Mail' reports that Atletico boss Diego Simeone has turned to Torres, with the veteran set to line up alongside Antoine Griezmann in attack on Wednesday night after performing that role in training ahead of the game.

The move would represent some gamble from 'Los Colchoneros', with Torres having only started one La Liga game and one Spanish Cup game so far this campaign.

Torres came on as a substitute in Saturday's goalless Madrid derby and almost teed up Kevin Gameiro for a winner, only for the Frenchman to see his effort cleared off the line.

Angel Correa missed a great chance early on and it is that sort of finishing that has convinced Simeone that Torres is the answer.

Atletico's Argentine boss is also expected to stick with Griezmann, despite his drop in form and the fact that he failed to register a shot on goal on Saturday.
