October 7 2002, Cristiano Ronaldo awakes to the news that he will be starting for Sporting Lisbon against Moreirense. Later that day, a star was born.
At that time, few knew anything about Ronaldo, only that he was a spotty, skinny teenager who had come through the club's academy. After just 34 minutes of the game though, they knew a lot more.
Wearing the No 28 shirt, the youngster embarked on one of his now trademark surging runs, throwing in a step-over or two before bursting past a static defence and lifting the ball over the helpless goalkeeper.
At that point, Sporting fans will have no doubt been predicting big things from their latest prodigy and right they were. Since making his first start at the age of just 17 years, eight months and two days, Ronaldo has gone one to become one of the best player in recent memory.
The game against Moreirense finished 3-0, with Ronaldo scoring twice, giving the youngster a thirst for goals that he is still yet to quench a decade and a half later.
And so the legend began.
Ainda te lembras do teu primeiro golo, @Cristiano?
